Find me - Marshmello
Producer(s):
Marshmello is music producer, DJ and musician who has been around since 2015 so is still very new to the music industry. But this has not held him back as his single "Alone" was in the Billboard Top 100 earlier this year. He has remixed songs by Jack Ü.
Timeline Deconstruction:
0:00 - 0:13 : The music video opens with Marshmello walking into the frame. They start with a low angle close up shot. It cuts to a mid shot of two party goers with the stereotypical red cups that are used in a lot of movies that have American parties in them. It cuts to a close up shot of they guys hand where he pulls put a handful of marshmallows. This is as a joke to link to the artist but also drugs are strongly linked to parties and also EDM music scenes. Drink is also offered which shows it's a party setting.

0:13 - 0:23 : It now cuts to a long shot that could be considered an over the shoulder shot. This is when we first see the location and it tilts from a high angle shot to an eye level shot and shows a Frat house with people partying outside. We can see Marshmello on the left hand side of the frame looking away from the camera and slightly defocused. Then it cuts to a tracking shot of Marshmello walking up to the house. It shows a shot of him looking down and then a high angle shot is use to show what he is looking at. Toilet paper is rolled across the floor and a red cup which shows the parties started.

0:23 - 0:40 : We are now introduced to new characters which seem to be the 3 of the guys who are hosting the party as they have the same symbol on their suit as the house does. They are shown in an over the shoulder mid shot looking at Marshmello. It cuts between A close up of Marshmellos face and the 3 frat boys as they seem confused. A high angle shot is used to show us the list they're looking at to allow people into the party, and here we can see Marshmello is the DJ for the party.

0:52 - 1:05 : It spins into the next frame and we are no longer following Marshmello and are in a different room of the house. Here we can see people having a pillow flight in a blue lighted room. It then cuts to another blue lighting where two people are having a twinkie eating contest which is an American food. These two settings show their is competition in the party.

1:05 - 1:24 : It cuts to the back yard of the house where loads of people can be seen dancing in a mid shot and their is pink and blue lighting used. It cuts back to Marshmello and pivots around him showing he's a bit confused. A low angle shot shows two people mattress surfing down the stairs and tracks them as they come down. It then cuts back to outside and shows the crowd in a long shot but at a slanted angle. It zooms into the main three people which is a university mascot and 2 girls dancing. It cuts back to the twinkie eating competition and shows the the girl won with everyone in the back cheering. A high angle shot shows the guys defeat as he is passed out and has people drawing on him.
1:24 - 1:31 : It cuts to a high angle shot from the top of the staircase which shows Marshmello still looking around and very lonely. Then it shows a mid shot of Marshmellos face looking around as if he's taking in the atmosphere and working out what to do and he looks up. It then cuts to a low angle shot of a another frat boy who is looking down at Marshmello with a medieval wine cup in his hand.

1:31 - 1:49 : Mid shots are then shown of Marshmello walking into the main room which has no colourful lighting in it and is quite basic and is knocked and pushed by other party goers. A tracking shot shows him walking further in where he accidentally knocks into another guy who spills his drink down another girl. The guy becomes agitated and tries to scare Marshmello by jumping forward at him. Marshmello then falls backwards and the lights go out to a black screen. The lights flicker back on and a high angle shot of Marshmello laid on the floor holding a wire which indicates he was the one who turned them off. It then cuts to a low angle shot of the crowd stood over him making them seem intimidating.

1:58 - 2:15 : It cuts to a guy and a girl who are looking weirdly at Marshmello, again acting intimidating. Marshmello nods his head in a close up shot and gets back to DJing and trying to get the crowd involved. A high angle shot of some wires plugged in show a couple of times hinting that one of them may be pulled or something make be plugged in. Again another guy is seen giving Marshmello a weird look. It cuts back to Marshmello and he begins to look worried and throws his hands behind his head. He is trying to work out what to do to make it better. The high angle shot of the wires is shown again but this time you can see he is pulling out one of the wires.
2:15 - 2:42 : It then cuts to a close up shot of Marshmello who now has blue lights spinning from behind him, it then zooms out and cuts to a shot of the crowd dancing and getting excited with the change in lighting. It cuts between Marshmello DJing and the crowd dancing and getting bigger. It also shows the people outside dancing and having fun. A low angle shot shows Marshmello dancing and then it cuts a to a long shot showing the crowd are now copying his dance moves. The lighting is going multicoloured and changing quickly.
2:42 - 2:56 : It cuts back to the room where people are having a pillow fight and the twinkie competition and shows almost everyone has left to go to where he is playing. It cuts to outside and shows some of them showing of their dance moves like doing flips and tricks which makes it seem like a movie. It ends with a shot from behind Marshmello dancing.
Shot Analysis:
Total Video Time = 2:58
Total amount of shots = 137
Lyrics:
This feels good right here
This feels good right here
Lyrics Analysis:
There is only one line that is repeated once. It's about the atmosphere of the party and how everyone is on the same level and everyone is feeling good. There is not much purpose to the song which is a regular occurrence in EDM music as its more about the sound and the feeling you get from the music.
Setting:
The setting is a Frat house that is throwing a house party. You can tell this by the age of the people in the music video and by the Frat symbols on the front of the house. It's a very Americanised movie party setting. There are lights all over the house, the red cups, toilet roll being thrown around.
Costume, Make Up, Props etc:
Marshmello is wearing his famous mask to keep his identity a secret and he pairs it with a white button up shirt, white jeans and white shoes. The rest of the party are in an assortment of clothes. Some are in suits and dresses and others are in shorts and t-shirts or crop tops and shorts. The girls are all have a full face of make up but nothing to drastic. The props include red cups, loo roll, fairy lights, inflatables, pillows, tables and chairs. These are to make it look like a house party and make it over the top.

Camera, Editing, Colours, Lighting:
The editing is more time consuming than the camera usage as their is no complicated shots and a lot of the shots are just cut and spread apart. Their is no main colour to the music video as the lights are constantly changing which changes the colour of the whole room. The lighting begins with natural lighting and then turns to low key lighting and then to multicoloured when it gets into the video.

Record Label:
Marshmello is signed to Monstercat and Owsla (Skrillex's Record Label). His main one is Monstercat which was founded in 2011 and is based in Canada. It's main genre of music is EDM which is Marshmello's genre.
Song Popularity: Spotify / YouTube
Find Me is 8th in Marshmellos most popular list and doesn't have that many streams. It has 14,124,760 which is low in comparison to his most streamed at 108,665,621 and in comparison to other artists.
On YouTube the video has received 27,564,199 views with 531K likes and 14K dislikes. Although it's not anything in comparison to the other two music videos, it's still viewed a massive amount of times with a lot of likes. The amount of dislike is extremely low.
Focus group:
1: I like this video as it's a narrative and also has a feel good feeling about it. I like the use of lighting and how it's like its straight out of a movie.
2: This music video reminds me of Bad Neighbours and has a few humoured parts in it which Iike but I like how American it is as it's an unrealistic view of how parties are.
3: It's very similar to other EDM music videos as it is set in a party and has a lot of coloured lights but it's different in the way the story is different to others.
4: You can definitely tell its a low budget video as the setting and props are very basic and stereotypical. I do like the idea behind it though.
